Sick in Mazatlan, but Recovered in San Blas

In Mazatlan, I became the only Hotspurvian to get sick. I got a little virus that gave me a bad chest cold. I had low-grade fever and think I quite possibly hacked up a lung. It hung on for days. It ruined New Year's Eve for us. And since our friends we planned to spend the holidays with were wrestling gut-wrenching, two-way, bacterial intestinal invasions... we left Mazatlan without ringing in the New Year with a  warm, huggy get-together with our dear friends on Just A Minute and Third Day.

I'll try to get some photos up today... we just arrived in San Blas, Mexico yesterday afternoon. We're anchored out in the estuary near Marina Fonatur (Singlar) and decided to give it a try to see if we could stand the no-see-ums that this quaint Mexican town is infamous for having. I built no-see-um screens for all the hatches earlier this year. Last night, they seemed to work!

Great bug repellent! We also purchased the bug creme call AUTAN in Mazatlan. It was about $5US a tube, so I only got one in case it didn't work. We have oodles of the Avon SSS sprays... I hear AUTAN is better for the no-see-ums. This morning we woke up and the no-see-ums were actually seen crawling on top of the hatch screens. Carolyne seems to be the only one of us with a bug bite. Yes... only one!

We visited San Blas in 2006 via camper/RV and loved this little Mexican hamlet. We are thrilled to return and if the bugs leave us alone, we'll spend a week or so here. But being cruisers, we change our minds by the hour. Tonight is the festival of the Three Kings. We are looking forward to attending!
