Finally... more Cruising Kids! (Tuesday - April 06, 2010)
It’s been a great respite for the kids these last couple weeks... not because they get a Spring Break and not because they have a vacation from school. As the winter months of January and February produced virtually no other kids to play with, March and April have been kind to them. Tim and Carolyne have had a grand time hanging out with the likes of Chandler and Henry on Hana Crew, Christopher and Emilie on Adios, Ben on Lisa Kay, and Jasmin, a local girl and daughter of the security guard here.
As a mom, I am thrilled the kids are doing more physical activities and outdoor gaming then the virtual playmates they have online. GAG! I know... I don’t identify because it wasn’t a part of my childhood. I still despise the ever endless hours of begging to play computer games or the kids sitting stone faced, shoulders slumped, twiddling their thumbs, deep sighs... as a sign of, "Hey Mom... I am SOOooooo bored!" So, when the cruising kids come I am thrilled!
And I am always so surprised how much I enjoy the company of these cruising kids. Typically speaking, they come up with creative play ideas together and they bond in age groups that are interesting to me. It’s not unusual for a 14 year old teenage girl to hang out with 10 year old Carolyne or Chandler without batting an eyelash. Most times the kids will develop their "group" and this will include all the kids... no matter the age.
Sometimes, the kids help each other with chores: laundry, sweeping, dishes, etc... Christopher and Tim painted the plywood under the berth together. It was a picture taking experience, but of course, I didn’t take any. They had paint stuck in their hair, on their clothes... I think I didn’t get a picture because I was busy cleaning up the spillage they tracked all over the soles! The job was done, however, and I didn’t have to do it! Yea!
