Day of the Dead and Halloween on the Baja
Friday, October 29th through November 2nd in Santa Rosalia, Mexico
The goblins and devils appeared throughout the above dates at different functions throughout town. There was some trick-or-treating, though not much at the storefronts. The kids here don't say 'Trick or Treat'. They say 'Tricky Tricky Halloween'.
The plaza square was decorated by the local school children. Memorials were set up to remember the departed. One shrine was dedicated to the little children and I couldn't bring myself to photograph it. Little toys and milk and favorite cereals were offered up to the little spirits.
The other shrines were dedicated to older departed souls and gifts of refried beans, corn, tequila and other favorite worldly things were set at the steps. The colors and decorations were alive and vibrant... a welcome invitation for departed loved ones to come visit.
After Carolyne's birthday fiesta on the 31st, Zeda and she went trick-or-treating. There were quite a few kids out in Halloween attire, but few candy donors... not that the girls needed any more sugary junk! But it was fun to go through town and be a part of the local happenings.
