Hog heads on display at Loreto Farmers MarketPuerto Escondido is an awesome anchorage, but if you don’t have a car to get you to Loreto to provision, it can cost you anywhere from $40US-$75US to rent a vehicle. Our friend in Nopolo, Ann, emailed and offered to drive me to the Sunday Farmer’s Market in Loreto. What a treat! Ann also took two cruising friends of mine, Rani on ‘Ladybug’ who desperately needed fruits & veggies and Lori on ‘Third Day’ who needed painting supplies for a bottom paint job they have scheduled on their boat. Ann shopping for veggies

We had such a great time! Four women out shopping! The market had beautiful produce: tomatoes, radishes, cabbages, chili peppers, papayas, cucumbers, onions... and I even bought fresh asparagus! There were stalls with kitchen gadgets, clothing, hats sunglasses, tools, housewares, and other odds and ends. Ann then took us into town to the bank, hardware store, candy store and other small grocery stores for Lori buying provisions from local vendorother provisions.

I think my favorite spectacle of the Mexican markets are the hogs heads that are displayed for sale. I missed out on the ‘cabritas’ or little goats that were skMountains in background as locals shop for produceinned and hanging... they were sold before I could get a photo. It doesn’t gross me out as much as it reminds me how resourceful the locals here are and how wasteful they are not. Keep in mind, however, that I did NOT buy one of these myself. Appreciation and Digestion are two different things!
