La Paz Art (Tuesday, 12/15/09)
I can’t believe I haven’t ever posted some of the beautiful art sculptures and murals that beautify the malecon here in gorgeous La Paz. The detail in the bronze, bigger-than-life statues is amazing, giving each character a life-like appearance. The murals are designed and painted by ‘Wyland’, an environmental activist local here in La Paz.
These statues and murals are more than just "pretty’ tourist pieces or configurations defined under fine art. They are important and valuable visual direction pieces. I think they should be added to every La Paz map in town. Yes, the old rumor that Mexico lacks street signs is very true, even in La Paz. So when giving directions here in La Paz to new cruisers, it is not uncommon to here that you get to the Pantheon Flea Market by turning right at the Fisherman with the Net. Or to get to the Hotel Arcos (which is closed due to a strike), it’s right across the street from the Sailor in the Little Boat.
