Taco Stands (Wednesday, 12/16/09)
Taco stands are the bomb here in Mexico! Our kids and we can eat delicious homemade food cooked right in front of you, dressed up with tasty, fresh pico de gallo, spicy peanut sauces, avocado, radish, cucumber, onion, plus more for a fraction of what the sit down gringo type restaurants charge. This particular photo was taken in the Bravo Market, which is covered, but open-air. Carolyne and I ate three meat and potato filled freshly made empanadas for 24 pesos, about $1.90US. Delicious! The outdoor, corner taco stands charge 5 pesos per taco (asada (beef), fish or shrimp) and you eat them standing up if the chairs are occupied, which is frequently because the locals flock at these stands intermittently throughout the day.
