Mother’s Day in Mazatlan, Mexico (Sunday - May 09, 2010)
Well, they didn’t forget after all! I was positive the family would wake, tootle around for a couple hours, then freeze at the realization, do a quick huddle-up, and ask me where I’d like to go for dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day... like it was planned all along. **like I haven’t seen this routine before!**
Instead, the kids set their alarm and woke at 7:30 am(!) to gather at my bedside and wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. To my further surprise, they let me know that they were taking their own spending money and treating me to a meal of my choice at any restaurant of my choice. So, I chose the Bar-B-Q place across the street. They offer tasty chicken sandwiches and beef or pork slathered in spicy sauce. Delicioso! The kids were enthralled with the bathrooms, which have galvanized buckets for urinals and basins.
Then, Carolyne and Amy on ‘Third Day’ set up a Mother’s Boutique in the cruisers lounge, offering manicures, massage, hair-dos... and there were hors d'oeuvres to boot... Doritos, cookies and a raisin nut mix. Some melted ice cream, iced tea and chewing gum, too. Speeches were given to both Lori and me by our respective daughter to let us know how important we are to our families.
I must admit... I really prefer this type of celebration to a department store gift. I am very grateful to my family. Thank you sweet children! (I am also very grateful to Lori on ‘Third Day’ for mentioning Mother’s Day to my husband the day before!)
