La Fonda in La Paz, Mexico - Our Favorite Restaurant!
Although La Paz is not a main destination for international tourists, it is a very popular destination for Mexican tourists. So, authentic Mexican cuisine is abundant. Our favorite restaurant in La Paz is La Fonda, a family owned restaurant that is famous for its homemade Mexican dishes and very affordable Mexican prices.
When we first came to La Paz in December 2008, La Fonda offered full dishes as low as 30 pesos per plate. Now they have gone up due to inflation, but I still had a delicious plate of Enchiladas Suizas for 40 pesos and Jim had burritos for 38 pesos... $3.20 and $3 US respectively. The plates are full size and the portions are generous.
La Fonda is a small establishment located on Bravo across from the ISTEEE store and a few stores down from Electra. Jorge Briceno and his wife Sylvia are the owners. They are warm and inviting people. Chicken Mole, Enchiladas, Flautas, Sopas... it's all traditional and all very good! The food is delicious, the prices are as tempting as the menu selection, and the outdoor patio is quaint. The food is so affordable that we even opt to take the kids with us... sometimes!
