Arizona Visit
It's been a while since we last reported, but the kids and I made a trip to Arizona while Jim stayed behind to babysit the pets and watch the boat at anchor in La Paz. We reunited with Jim's dad and my two sisters and their children; it was fantastic!
The Aguila bus was the mode of transportation since we no longer have the car. It was clean, air conditioned, provided movies, had a bathroom, and even had semi-comfortable reclining seats. The best part was that the round trip tickets from La Paz to Mexacali cost $625 for three of us... a very reasonable expense considering the distance. The worst part was that the trip up was 25 hours long and the trip back was 28 hours long. The kids were the best. Our children travel exceptionally well and with almost no complaining... almost.
When we arrived in Mexicali on June 15, we hired a taxi for $5US to take us to the border crossing. Once there, we walked across easily and had no hassles from the US border patrol at all. It was painless and we had only one bag filled with a couple days worth of clothing each, personal hygiene items and several empty duffel bags which would undoubtedly be springing leaks on the way home. Jim's dad picked us up on the US side and drove us back to his home in Lake Havasu City, AZ, which is about 3 1/2 hours away.
Reda, a dear family friend, allowed us to stay in her beautiful home in Lake Havasu City. It was palatial (compared to the boat) and I felt truly pampered to sleep on a "real" bed! My sisters, Elsa and Anna, were equally impressed with the accommodations and the children relished the time they spent together in the pool. We saw TOY STORY 3 (in 3D), ate at the Chinese buffet, went to the Aquatic Center and swam in the Wave Pool, spent a day on the lake with Dad in his boat, and did a tour of London Bridge while sipping away at shaved icies in the heat. We also celebrated Tim's 15th birthday. He was thrilled with his new dive knife! It was so wonderful to see everyone and it was worth the expense and travel to get there. Unfortunately, there was no internet in the house where we stayed. I had to go to Dad's house to use the computer to communicate with Jim... not very convenient.
The first day we were there, a cottontail rabbit ran scared... right into the hot tub! Sam, my nephew, rescued it. The kids were so tickled! They let it go after the photo was taken.
