#2 Favorite Household Appliance for Cruising

Jim said I couldn’t bring my KitchenAid Mixer or Food Processor or my VitaMix Blender on the boat. He said they were too space intensive. He said they sucked up too much power. He can really be so unreasonable at times! ;) Luckily, my sisters gave me an Amazon gift certificate for my birthday and I purchased a KitchenAid Immersion Stick Blender.
 KitchenAid Immersion Blender KBH300
#2 Immersion Hand Blender: There are other products out there that do similar jobs, but I picked the KitchenAid KHB300 because it came with a Chopper and Whisk attachment, too... and the reviews were very good. I use this handy device a lot. It’s held up well... it is still whirring away two years later... even in the marine conditions!

It was a tad expensive, about $80 on Amazon two years ago. However, it works on the inverter and doesn’t suck up a bunch of power. It stores nicely... doesn’t take up much room at all. It’s easy to clean and it’s diverse. I can beat egg whites and whip up cream, make a smooth cream cheese dip, finely chop bread crumbs out of day-old bread or chop nuts, create smoothies, puree fruit or veg, and beat my sugar, butter and eggs quite nicely for baked goodies. It’s fantastic for soups and sauces!

What it does NOT do well is crush ice cubes, which is a bummer.

I highly recommend to any galley chef to get something like this in lieu of the assortment of space hog appliances. I will tell you that Jim rolled his eyes when I first got it, but has said later that he agrees that I’ve gotten my money’s worth!
