About Windfall
We purchased "Windfall" from Bob and Janet Bean in April 2007 in Long Beach, California. We are her third owner. She is a Cal Cruiser 35' Sloop built in 1974. She's had many modifications over the years and we just fell in love with her!
"Windfall" came with a well maintained Perkins 4-108 engine. She carries 120 gallons or water and 112 gallons of diesel in new aluminum fuel tanks. She has a new head and new Force10 3-burner galley stove. She came with a working wind generator, electric windlass, PUR Suvivor35 watermaker, auto pilot, single side band radio (and HAM), and a newer Martec feathering prop.
Our major purchases to get her ready for our cruise included:
- New Raymarine radar and chart plotter

- Electronic Navionic charts
- 35 lb. CQR anchor and 300' of 5/16 chain
- (2) 100 watt solar panels
- New Avon hard bottom dinghy w/ folding transom (named "Wind-Small")
- Used 15HP Mariner outboard motor...
- and many other costly items that sent us nearly into cardiac fibrillation!
"Windfall" was built for cruising and we feel very comfortable sailing her. She has a nice sized cockpit with newly recovered cushions. The galley sink is a double stainless and has ample counter top space.
The V-Berth has been set up with a divider down the middle, so both kids have their own "rooms". The head is equipped with a nice shower, toilet and vanity. The main cabin has a large table either for gourmet or games. It breaks down each night into a queen bed, which Jim and I share in cooler weather. Otherwise, we stretch out in the roomy and comfortable cockpit. The chart table and nav station occupy the left side of the companionway steps and a 1/4 berth sits across the other side. The 1/4 berth is currently being used to store all our sails and other "things".
A nice sugar scoop swim platform was added to the transom. It produces a nice swim step with outside freshwater shower and extends our waterline under way by about three feet. Storage compartments for snorkeling gear and extras are located in convenient lockers under the steps.
