Fresh Orange Juice
For a mere 50 pesos ($4US), we bought a 45lb. bag of oranges from the back of a pick up truck in San Blas. The oranges didn't look like much. The tennis ball sized green orbs were covered with brown and black stains. I asked if I could sample the flavor first. The farmer cut one and gave me a half. The fruit was sweet and juicy... divine. Tim lugged the bag back to the boat. It's great to have a TIM!
Every morning for the last several days our family has enjoyed a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. As we do not have space for fancy electric juicers, we juice our oranges in the old fashioned way. We love the taste and the flavor of the ugly oranges down here is heavenly. For me I think there is something nostalgic about hand squeezed orange juice. I have a nebulous memory of my parents doing this very thing once upon a time. Somehow, working hard to get the juice makes the outcome taste that much better.
