Wind Surfing (Friday, 11/20/09)
Anchored at San Francisquito, held up there for six nights due to nasty winds outside the anchorage, Windfall got a special treat. Rick on Lymerick is an avid wind surfing dude. Once he arrived in the anchorage he called us on the radio and asked if there were any of us who would like to give it a try. He has been a wind surfing instructor for years and the kids were all over the offer! Carolyne had a bum foot and needed to stay out of the water, so she wasn’t able to participate. Tim and Jason and Amy from Third Day all gave it a whirl. It wasn’t as easy as Rick made it look. The kids had a blast, though. Surprisingly, all three kids were able to get the sail up and take off. Maneuvering is another story, but this was their first experience. After the afternoon lesson, Tim came back and wanted to research the cost of a board and sail. Not a cheap endeavor.
Just another example of how cruisers help each other out... enhancing lives and sharing information, gear, and love of living!
