Hip Hip Hooray for Turtle Bay!
The arrival in Turtle Bay is a relief. Its tranquil anchorage has provided us with well deserved R&R!
Our only stops so far have been Cassler's Cove at San Martin Island for 4 hours, and then Cedros Island for 24 hours. Cedros was terribly windy, but we needed to rest, although it wasn't much. Our anchor alarm that tells us if we're drifting doesn't seem to be working. The anchorage was rough and uncomfortable. We had to keep getting up to make sure weren't blowing out to sea. The elephant seals, which I ordinarily would have enjoyed, were loud and obnoxious. Earplugs were out of the question since we needed to be alert to new noises - thumpings or sloshings to be exact.
After Cedros, we navigated a mine field of lobster pots! For miles... nothing but lobster pot after lobster pot! Since I didn't want to be the one to dive in and untangle one of those abominations from our prop, I kept a watchful eye from the bow and yelled, pointed, jumped up and down, ANY means of communication necessary to avoid the obstacles. Yesterday morning, we saw a marlin shoot up from the depths and jump 5 or so times up in the air! Amazing! Don has caught a couple of Bonito and a Skip Jack, but no keepers. We're now in warmer weather and have shed the foulies for summer togs!
