Posted by meri on Sun, 10/31/2010 - 14:19

This entire building is a costume shop We're working on our 4th week in Santa Rosalia, Mexico and we're in no hurry to go anywhere else presently.

Jim has been working countless hours on internet websites. We finally purchased a Banda Ancha 3G card and he's been relatively pleased with the speed. He has two up and running sites currently:

We LOVE our Engel!

More cruiser trivia to spice up your day... I know it's not as exciting as swimming with whale sharks or hiking with rattlers but it is handy info for the cruiser at heart. If you are a cruising couple, the addition to your boat I'm about to mention is very desirable. If you are a cruising family, this item is practically mandatory. Now I realize that the cruising kitty will suffer a big dent by such a purchase. However, life on a boat improved for our family enormously by having an Engel Freezer aboard.

BEFORE drilling mold holesOkay... so we're sitting here in a slip in Santa Rosalia, Mexico and enjoying the heck out of this really cool little pueblo. This is our fourth time here in two years. And so I don't bore anyone with old news, I'll start a topic that will hopefully be helpful to any other potential cruisers... on cruising trivia.

Canadian Thanksgiving in Santa Rosalia, Mexico

Posted by meri on Sat, 10/16/2010 - 15:23

No on is real sure why there is a Canadian Thanksgiving, but we celebrated it anyway. There were even a couple of Canadians there to make it more official. The photos were taken before we ate dinner. There is always a risk that the photographer might not get any food while taking eating photos. I really should have gotten some good eating shots, though. There was PLENTY of left-overs!

September Cruising Expenses - a comparison of 2009 to 2010

Posted by meri on Tue, 10/12/2010 - 18:42

The month of September... and we're still not through spending money to make the boat a more comfortable and safe place to live. Our days of freezing 3 liter bottles of water in the Engel freezer and using them as block ice to cool the items in the fridge came to a screeching halt when it was so hot outdoors that the freezer couldn't keep up. So this month, we purchased an Adler Barber evaporator and compressor. What a delight... cold drinking water, veggies and fruit that last, ICE! And boy, did we create more freezer space!

Our Last Year in the Sea of Cortez

Photo of Tim windsurfing in crowded anchorage. Granted, this was during the Full Moon Party in La Mona... but it gives you an idea and especially considering it doesn't catch the boats behind. No skinny dipping this year!

Lions Paw Scallop

A local friend dove down and brought this to our boat. It is a Lions Paw Scallop and the meat is as big as my fist. Yes, that is a clothespin keeping it from closing up; gives you a good idea of the size of that thing!

I've procrastinated getting this posted mainly because I've procrastinated tallying up all the costs. I really don't want to know... really.

Carrot Cake Recipe

Posted by meri on Tue, 09/28/2010 - 21:59

My 45th birthday... I usually don't want cake on my birthday, but this year was an exception. I was jonesing for a carrot cake and my birthday was a perfect excuse to make one. Carrots are usually found in abundance on the Baja, so finding the ingredients was a piece of cake, too. The hardest part is grating the carrots... oh, how I miss my food processor!
