Cruising Dogs Aboard (Friday 11/13/09)

Posted by meri on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 15:50

Our faithful 'Bow-Wow-Sprit' coming back from a walkBailey is an older dog (12)... 84 years old she is, in human time. She has made the transition from house-dog to cruising-dog in the past year remarkably well. She has such a good disposition and outlook... as long as she’s with people (her people - that would be us), she’s happy.

Watermakers - the difference between ‘Camping’ and ‘Cruising’! (Thursday 11/12/09)

Jim doing maintenance on the watermaker in the cockpitIs Windfall camping or cruising? When we purchased our boat back in 2006, she came with an older PUR35 water maker, which converts sea water into potable drinking water... one gallon every 45 minutes.

Hot Dogs via Santa Rosalia Style (Saturday 11/07/09)

Santa Rosalia Hot Dog Stand (photo taken by 'Third Day')Yes, I snabbed these photos from 'Third Day', who has left us this morning after a fantastic hot dog smorgasbord last night! The famous hot dog stand is one of our favorites, although the La Paz stand is top dog, too, in our opinion.

Carolyne's foot: deep cut from clamshell on beachEven the smallest of cuts or abrasions can be dangerous while at sea. So far this year, we’ve had one sting ray wound (Tim), one scorpion sting (Jim), several bee stings (everyone but Meri), and various cuts, scrapes, burns, etc... out of range of medical treatment facilities.

Black Forest Cake with Golden Butter Icing
‘Windfall’s cheater cake that looks pastry-chef pretty and tastes like restaurant quality, fancy-schmancy! I threw this together for Carolyne's birthday when we we're at anchor in the Middle-of-Nowhere, Mexico and it was SO good!

Spooky-Kookey Halloween & Carolyne’s Birthday! (Saturday 10/31/09)

Posted by meri on Sun, 11/01/2009 - 12:33

Carolyne's 10th BDay party aboard 'Gemini'We had so hoped to be in Santa Rosalia to celebrate Carolyne’s birthday with all the cruising kids (minus ‘Don Quixote’ who has unfortunately headed further south already). However, the winds have been so snotty lately and the large swells that are accompanying the northerlies are not becoming.

CAROLYNE'S OCTOBER - another poem by 9 yr old Carolyne (Thursday 10/29/09)

Posted by meri on Sun, 11/01/2009 - 12:29

CAROLYNE’S OCTOBER

In the fall of October,
A drop of golden sun can make the leaves of
Purple,
Red,
Orange
And yellow,
Plus brown,
Turn gold.
Then the trout will blow with the breeze,
And the dying trees will come alive,
And thrive.
In October the birds will chirp.
In October the hills will glow.
In October my love will grow,
Even though it may snow.

SAIL TO PORT, a poem written by Carolyne (Wednesday 10/28/09)

Posted by meri on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 15:05

Carolyne wrote a poem while we were sailing from Alacran to San Francisquito. My 9-year old (soon to be 10 years old on Halloween) likes to explore her hidden talents. I liked this one and asked her permission to post it.

SAIL TO PORT

Wave, Crash!
Wave, Crash!
I’m sailing to port,
Wave, Crash!
Wave, Crash!
I’m sailing to port,
Look at the birds,
This is just a bit of luck!
Look at my pole,
I got a fish!
Wave, Crash!
Wave, Crash!
I’m sailing to port,
The cities are big,

Demon Crossing (Sunday 10/25/09)

Tim taking charge at the helm. Big swell in the background, but going downwind! We decided to depart Alacran anchorage headed to the inner bay of San Francisquito due to north winds... perfect for heading south! Low and behold, little did we know the swells were going to hit us aft quarter... producing a very uncomfortable and messy ride! Did I mention 30+ knots of wind? Oh, that is also important...

Bye Bye BLA (Saturday 10/24/09)

This is our very last day in Bahia Los Angeles. This afternoon we head south and leave the glorious northern Sea of Cortez for warmer destinations. Our plan is to be in La Paz by Thanksgiving.
